Recently, the police dogs wearing virtual reality (VR) devices have attracted much attention during the ongoing annual two sessions in Beijing.

The VR devices were developed by the police dog technique department of Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau, and on March 5 the police dogs were firstly equipped with the multifunctional and wearable VR cameras. The cameras with fisheye lens on the back of the dogs can shoot 720-degree panoramic videos and transmit the real-time videos to the officers who wear VR glasses to achieve remote command. Currently, the devices have been fully applied in the fields of antiriot security check, anti-drug operation and investigation.

The police dog technique department has played an outstanding role in detecting major cases and seizing drugs. In 2016, it dispatched nearly 4,300 policemen and over 4,000 police dogs to complete more than 1,300 missions such as antiriot security check, emergency operation, patrols and guard, and criminal investigation. It conducted security check in an area of more than 1,200 square meters.
